For the first session of the Dependent Origination daylong, Tahn Pamutto goes over how the Buddha identified the problem of suffering and then used wisdom and logic to figure out all the causal steps that lead to its arising. “With Ignorance as Condition, Volition arises; With Volition as Condition, Consciousness Arises; With Consciousness, Name-and-Form; With Name-and-Form, the Six Sense Bases; With the Six Sense-Bases, Contact; With Contact, Feeling; With Feeling, Craving; With Craving, Clinging; With Clinging, Becoming; With Becoming as Condition, there is Birth – and dependent on Birth comes Aging-and-Death, Sorrow, Lamentation, Pain, Grief, and Despair. This is the arising of this whole mass of suffering.”
For the afternoon session of the Dependent Origination daylong, Tahn Pamutto continues on to address the first two and highest links of Dependent Origination – Ignorance and Volition. Also includes two sutta’s, which can be found at https://upavana.org/dependent-origination-daylong-references/
